Top 10 Things That Make A Grumpy Teen Grumpier

Top 10 Things That Make A Grumpy Teen Grumpier

Several of my adorable children have morphed into other-worldly creatures recently.

That’s right.

They’re teenagers.

Sometimes, teenagers get a bad rap, even though they’re often full of exciting ideas, bursting with enthusiasm, and happy to help.

On the other hand, they’re sometimes full of bologna, bursting with rudeness, and not the least bit interested in standing up, much less helping.

As I listened to my teenage progenies mumbling and grumbling throughout our home this morning, I wondered if anything could make them grumpier.  Turns out many things can!

Top 10 Things That Make A Grumpy Teen Grumpier

#10.  Waking up on time.

#9.  Waking up late.

#8.  Her sister wearing her sweater without asking.

#7.  Not getting her sweater back because it’s actually your sweater, which has been AWOL, apparently in her closet, for 2 months.

#6.  Being offered a hot, home-cooked breakfast.

#5.  Not being allowed to dress like a hooker.

Humor Funny Humorous Family Life Love Laugh Laughter Parenting Mom Moms Dad Dads Parenting Child Kid Kids Children Son Sons Daughter Daughters Brother Brothers Sister Sisters Grandparent Grandma Grandpa Grandparents Grandfather Grandmother Parenting Gina Valley Top 10 Things That Make A Grumpy Teen Grumpier Teenagers#4.  Having to say good bye to her mom, on her way out the door to catch the bus.

#3.  Being asked if she remembered to bring her bus pass.

#2.  Having to return to her bedroom to get her bus pass.

#1.  Having someone wave goodbye and call out “I love you! Have a nice day!” as she races off toward the bus stop.

I’m thinking mine are so grumpy lately, because they keep getting up on the wrong side of their beds. I should move their beds away from the wall before they get home.

How To TOTALLY Over Do It!!!…Gina’s Favorites

by Gina Valley

Slurpee Day is a big deal around here.

Every July 11th (you know, 7-11) all the 7-11 stores in our neck of the woods celebrate their anniversary by giving away free Slurpees.

We never miss it.

Humor Funny Humorous Family Life Love Laugh Laughter Parenting Mom Moms Dad Dads Parenting Child Kid Kids Children Son Sons Daughter Daughters Brother Brothers Sister Sisters Grandparent Grandma Grandpa Grandparents Grandfather Grandmother Parenting Gina Valley How To TOTALLY Over Do It...Gina's Favorites Quest AdventuresIt’s not like we couldn’t go get a Slurpee any day. They’re very inexpensive. But, on 7-11 Day, it’s not just a frozen slush packed with sugar and food coloring.

It’s an adventure!

We always have lots of laughs as we trek around our neighborhood hunting the frozen treats, like this year when Son#3 said, on the way into 7-11 number 7, “I feel like I’m gonna throw up if I have anymore, but I’m gonna push through!” I guess there’s a fine line between dedication and insanity.

Enjoy some sugar-laced laughs in this Gina’s Favorites post I wrote about one of our past Slurpee hunts.

How To TOTALLY Over Do It

There are a million different places you can go for advice on sensible eating.  This is NOT one of them. But, I can give you advice on how to totally overdo it! Overdoing it is important, too!

I am a big believer that everything should be done in moderation, including moderation. Sometimes, just for fun, just for laughs, just for memories, you NEED to overdo it. Yesterday we over did it. And, it was great!

It was July 11, 7-11, the day the 7-11 company celebrates its birthday. 7-11 stores across the United States and Canada gave away 7.11 ounce Slurpees.

My kids love them, so we were not about to miss this opportunity. But, when we do something, we rarely go about it half way. We are “all-in” kind of people (that’s why our poker tournaments end so quickly!). So, we went out in search of “all in,” as in Slurpees, Slurpees, and more Slurpees! We decided to hit all 6 of the 7-11’s in our neighborhood.

Humor Funny Humorous Family Life Love Laugh Laughter Parenting Mom Moms Dad Dads Parenting Child Kid Kids Children Son Sons Daughter Daughters Brother Brothers Sister Sisters Grandparent Grandma Grandpa Grandparents Grandfather Grandmother Parenting Gina Valley How To TOTALLY Over Do It...Gina's Favorites Quest Adventures‎The first stop, at 7-11 #1, was the bumpiest. I think that’s true of any quest. Like a thirsty herd arriving at the watering hole after a long day in the sun on the savanna, my pack pushed and grappled with each other to be first to fill their cup with frozen, slushy goodness.

When we got back to our van “someone” gave them a quick “if you won’t behave kindly in these places of business, I will not allow you to gorge yourself on nutrition-less frozen-sugar any further.” Might have been me. Sounds like something I’d say. Either way, it worked. They were all on their best behavior throughout the rest of our sweet hunt.

At 7-11 #2, I could hear my kids discussing Slurpee strategy. Some were going for different flavors. Others were planning to have the same flavor every time. There were even straw strategies. The single color straw fan. The alternating color fan. Several different colors at every stop fans. Cups were full, but not over flowing like at the first stop.

By 7-11 #3, style and skill had been acquired. I noticed artful twirls and twists at the top of each kids’ Slurpee. Sons#2 showed me that he’d figured out how to mix the different colors as he filled his cup so he ended up with a heart shape at the top. Someday I predict that being a cute ending to a date after-party. Some day. Someday far, far away.

Humor Funny Humorous Family Life Love Laugh Laughter Parenting Mom Moms Dad Dads Parenting Child Kid Kids Children Son Sons Daughter Daughters Brother Brothers Sister Sisters Grandparent Grandma Grandpa Grandparents Grandfather Grandmother Parenting Gina Valley How To TOTALLY Over Do It...Gina's Favorites Quest AdventuresWe finished the first three stops in under an hour. As we were driving toward stop #4, I said to myself, “They aren’t gonna need dinner, are they?”  Most had inhaled at least four different colors of Slurpee already.

Sounded like a complete food pyramid to me. I figured the rest of the upcoming Slurpees on our afternoon trek would serve as dessert, and to ensure that no one wants another Slurpee again for at least a year.

As we pulled into the parking lot of 7-11 #4, we noticed a familiar red truck pulling out. It was the same Red Truck With Man & Daughter that we had seen at the previous stop. I looked around the parking lot and realized several of the cars had joined us at our previous stops. Truly, this was a Slurpee Fan Community Caravan.

My pack’s discussions at 7-11 #4 showed the sudden 7-11 efficiency experts they had become. They had suggestions for improved in-store traffic flow, for flavor machine order, even for straw dispenser location. I noticed that no one filled their cup all the way to the top.

Red Truck With Man & Daughter beat us to 7-11 #5. It had been a long journey. We were all exhausted. Well, actually it had been a short journey because we were riding in our van, but it felt long. And, we weren’t so much exhausted as full. But, either way, our spirits were low as we piled out of the van and dragged ourselves toward the door of 7-11 #5.

A couple kids mentioned that they were starting to feel a bit sick. We’d already hit 4 out of the 6 local 7-11’s. I reminded them that this was a marathon, not a sprint. It was time to push past that sick feeling, to grab another Slurpee, and to suck it up.

Humor Funny Humorous Family Life Love Laugh Laughter Parenting Mom Moms Dad Dads Parenting Child Kid Kids Children Son Sons Daughter Daughters Brother Brothers Sister Sisters Grandparent Grandma Grandpa Grandparents Grandfather Grandmother Parenting Gina Valley How To TOTALLY Over Do It...Gina's Favorites Quest AdventuresJust as we passed Red Truck With Man & Daughter, the window went down. We all stopped to see what was going to happen, which was easy to do because our kids were too full to move quickly.

Man spoke to The Professor in a voice that was quick, excited, and had clearly eaten way too much sugar. “There’s another one.  A seventh one! I just heard about it. There’s a seventh! A friend called and told me no one is there. It’s right by the freeway. And, it’s the one that crazy guy robbed last year!” Man blurted out all in one breath.

Well, this exciting news perked up our whole Slurpee Speed Ingesting Team. Not only was this a quest stop with no line, it was a crime scene! Who would want to miss that?!?!

Our whole pack made it through the line at 7-11 #5, although I noticed a couple hobbling as they emerged with their half-filled Slurpee cups.

All that stood between us and following in the crazy robber guy’s footsteps was 7-11 #6.

Humor Funny Humorous Family Life Love Laugh Laughter Parenting Mom Moms Dad Dads Parenting Child Kid Kids Children Son Sons Daughter Daughters Brother Brothers Sister Sisters Grandparent Grandma Grandpa Grandparents Grandfather Grandmother Parenting Gina Valley How To TOTALLY Over Do It...Gina's Favorites Quest Adventures7-11 #6 nearly spelled the end of our sugar rush pilgrimage. Everyone was feeling sick as we piled out of our van. A couple kids asked if they had to go in (“Of course you do. You just don’t realize how much fun you’re having because you feel like you’re going to barf!”). I was feeling a bit nauseous myself, even though I’d yet to have a Slurpee, because the too-sweet smell of them was permeating our van.

It was time for a pep talk.

We stood in a circle outside of 7-11 #6. I talked about team work. I talked about being together. I talked about how we had dragged ourselves this far, so we might as well finish the journey. We were so close.

I told them about the “wall” long distance runners hit as they compete in the Olympics, and that somehow they still manage to overcome and make it back into the stadium. “We shall overcome!” I assured them.

I also pointed out that they could still claim victory over Slurpee #6, even if they only put a little Slurpee in their cup.

Everyone dragged themselves into 7-11 #6 on our Slurpee Quest Tour. I noticed that only Son#2 filled his cup more than ¼ of the way full. No one looked too happy piling back into the van. But, even before we were out of the parking lot, a remarkable transformation began to take place. There was renewed giggling and chattering as we started off toward 7-11 #7.

The sugar had arrived in their bloodstreams.

I’m not saying 6 Slurpees is too much sugar, but by the time we hit the freeway for the quick hop over to 7-11 #7 my kids were having tongue trilling contests, for both duration and volume, as we drove. That wasn’t annoying. Not at all.

Humor Funny Humorous Family Life Love Laugh Laughter Parenting Mom Moms Dad Dads Parenting Child Kid Kids Children Son Sons Daughter Daughters Brother Brothers Sister Sisters Grandparent Grandma Grandpa Grandparents Grandfather Grandmother Parenting Gina Valley How To TOTALLY Over Do It...Gina's Favorites Quest AdventuresThe lack of crime scene tape or any other post-crime paraphernalia disappointed my pack as we drove up to 7-11 #7. I reminded them that the robbery had taken place a year earlier, but they felt there should have at least been a police car parked nearby.

Happily, my pack had pushed through their Slurpee “wall,” and practically ran through the door of 7-11 #7. They were happy little slurpers again as they emerged smiling. They returned home with stacks of paper cups and straws in their hands, and, hopefully, an understanding about the day’s deeper meaning in their hearts.

It was not just a Slurpee – it was an adventure!!!!!!! Well, 7 adventures.

BTW – everyone was “starving” for dinner when we got home. But, no one wanted any dessert!

Why They Will NOT Let Me Run The UN

Why They Will NOT Let Me Run The UN

by Gina Valley

My 2 youngest decided to have a discussion on the way to their sister’s basketball game last week.

It was a rather lengthy discussion. In fact, some (me, for instance) might say it was a marathon-bicker-fest or a non-stop-argument or a major-pain-in-the-neck-for-everyone-unlucky-enough-to-be-within-earshot.

Humor Funny Humorous Family Life Love Laugh Laughter Parenting Mom Moms Dad Dads Parenting Child Kid Kids Children Son Sons Daughter Daughters Brother Brothers Sister Sisters Grandparent Grandma Grandpa Grandparents Grandfather Grandmother Parenting Gina Valley Why They Will NOT Let Me Run The UN ArguingIf I didn’t know better I’d have sworn they’d somehow morphed into 2 little, extremely-grumpy old men.  Their attitudes had passed foul and landed on you-have-got-to-be-kidding-me.

They had bubbled close to the surface for a week before they burst into that full boil crab fest .  Just my luck that they decided to do it while we were all trapped in our van on the way to my 15 year old’s basketball game.

Now by “we” I mean me, all of my kids, and half of the basketball team. And, by “trapped” I mean we were suddenly stuck in stop and stop traffic (that’s like stop and go traffic, except you don’t go).  There was no way I could pull off of the freeway for a quick stare-of-death or MML (Major Mom Lecture).

So, as my OCD stress-level was flying off the charts, worrying that we’d not only be late for the team’s call time, but quite possibly miss the game altogether, I was serenaded by the sound of 2 boys bickering non-stop, to really push me to the edge of insanity.

What were they arguing so intensely about that they had nearly come to blows, and were driving everyone insane?

Nothing.

And, everything.

The color of the sky, how big a sea eagle is, who saw the funny cloud first, whether one of them was breathing too loudly, if trumpets or saxophones are better, long socks VS short socks, which color mouth guard works best, who woke up first, who slept on the sofa the most times, which episode of Kickin’ It is the best, what kind of stuffing is in the coats you wear to Antarctica, which flightless bird is the meanest, and on and on and on in a desperate, unending cycle of negativity that made me want to stick my finger in my eye.

Humor Funny Humorous Family Life Love Laugh Laughter Parenting Mom Moms Dad Dads Parenting Child Kid Kids Children Son Sons Daughter Daughters Brother Brothers Sister Sisters Grandparent Grandma Grandpa Grandparents Grandfather Grandmother Parenting Gina Valley Why They Will NOT Let Me Run The UN Arguing

Oh. My. Gosh.

Judging by the way they were trying not to laugh, I could tell the basketball team members riding with us found my youngest boys’ crabby antics hysterical. Clearly, none of them had little brothers or sisters.

My own children made no effort to hide their feelings about their little brothers’ behavior.  They alternated laughing at them with hollering at them to “Knock it off!”  Both reactions served to add fuel and energy to the grumps’ fire.

I was busy oscillating between shock that my sons would behave so terribly in front of “company,” and constantly recalculating what time we’d be at the game if traffic suddenly disappeared (which it never did) (until we were off of the freeway and a couple of hundred feet away from the gymnasium door).

Nothing swayed the foul tide rushing out of my 2 darling, young sons. I tried bribing, explaining, scolding, guilting.  Nothing worked.

I made them change seats, so that they were in different rows, thinking the whole “out of sight, out of mind thing” might apply to children who have lost their minds.  It did not.  Instead of creating sudden peace, changing seats just provided distance to encourage throwing things at each other, and yanking hair and seatbelts.

I hate to admit that, after one of the offenders screamed that his brother needed anger management classes, I yelled towards my spewing offspring, who were, luckily for them, seated near the rear of our van “If you don’t knock it off, I’m going to pull over and show you some anger management right here on the side of the freeway!”

Humor Funny Humorous Family Life Love Laugh Laughter Parenting Mom Moms Dad Dads Parenting Child Kid Kids Children Son Sons Daughter Daughters Brother Brothers Sister Sisters Grandparent Grandma Grandpa Grandparents Grandfather Grandmother Parenting Gina Valley Why They Will NOT Let Me Run The UN Arguing

This brought peals of laughter from the basketball team, and caused my 2 grumpy sons to sink lower into their seats.  Of course, it did not diminish their arguing.

I kept thinking “Lord Jesus, don’t come today!” I’d hate to go out on that note.

As I sat trapped in traffic listening to my 2 minions continue to grumble, I remembered a comedian saying that his dad used to keep a fly swatter in the car to reach kids in the backseat.  I made a mental note to buy a fly swatter, preferably with an extra-long extension handle, as soon as possible. I knew I’d never use it, but it would be a great “Peace through Strength” kind of thing, or, I guess more a “Peace through Realizing Mom Can Get Us While She’s Driving” kind of thing.
My boys argued the entire hour and 15 minutes we spent going to the basketball game.

They argued walking from our van into the gymnasium.

They argued through the entire basketball game (even though I seated them at opposite ends of the bleachers) (honestly, their charade and lip-reading skills, which allowed them to continue arguing from such a distance, would have been impressive had they not been so infuriating).

Humor Funny Humorous Family Life Love Laugh Laughter Parenting Mom Moms Dad Dads Parenting Child Kid Kids Children Son Sons Daughter Daughters Brother Brothers Sister Sisters Grandparent Grandma Grandpa Grandparents Grandfather Grandmother Parenting Gina Valley Why They Will NOT Let Me Run The UN Arguing

They argued walking from the gymnasium back to our van.

They argued as we drove onto the freeway to head for home.

Then, they stopped. Suddenly.

No slow down. No warning.

Just a seize and desist so sudden that all of us trapped in the van with them, me, my kids, half of the basketball team, nearly got whiplash craning our necks to see what had caused the sudden drop in din.

My young progenies were leaning against each other, hands folded peacefully in their laps, smiling, and sound asleep.

It was such an insane and sudden change that I had the urge to burst out laughing, but I didn’t dare.

My oldest son expressed what I’m sure all of us hostages were feeling, “If anyone wakes them up, I will pull over and show you some anger management on the side of this road.”

My thoughts, exactly.

Is That A Cannon In Your Pocket?

Is That A Cannon In Your Pocket?

by Gina Valley

I’ve had a really lousy day.

Actually, it’s been nearly 2 days of lousy now, and tomorrow doesn’t hold much promise for improvement.

Funny Humor Love http://ginavalley.com/ Is That A Cannon In Your Pocket? – Read & Laugh All About It!So, to be totally honest, last night I couldn’t bring myself to do the final read through and hit “publish” on the funny post I wrote for today.  Just couldn’t do it.  It’s hard to be funny, or to even read funny, when you’re sad.

Now, though, my OCD is going bananas, because I didn’t post anything today.

I’ve been torn all afternoon about which of my neurosis to give into. Nothing is ever simple.

I decided to go with a re-run today, one of my posts that always makes me smile.

I hope it brings you a smile, too.

My Bodyguard’s Assault Cannon Is Bigger Than Yours

This is Hunter.  He (well at least I think he’s a “he”) is from HALO and is my body guard this week. At 2 ½ inches tall, he’s the largest plastic body guard I’ve had.

A couple years ago on a Wednesday evening, Sons #3 & #4 came to understand that after they went to bed at night I would stay up to work.  I’m not sure they understood then, although I’m reasonably sure they do now, that I need peace and quiet to write.

Funny Humor Love http://ginavalley.com/ Is That A Cannon In Your Pocket? – Read & Laugh All About It!

Certainly, it will be years, probably not until they are parents themselves, before they will understand that I’d rather give up my sleep for that peace and quiet than give up my time with my children.

But what I know they did understand that day was that their mommy was up alone in the sleepy, dark house in the middle of the night.

This was, and to some degree I suppose still is, a scary concept to them.  When they wake up in the middle of the night they find it a frightening thing. So, loving sons that they are, they wanted to protect their mommy from the dangers of the night.

They scampered up to their room, and much inaudible discussion ensued.  A few minutes later they returned with a Lego peg-legged pirate, complete with sword and pistol. He (I’m quite certain he was a “he”) looked quite rough and tough and burly, as one would expect a Lego pirate to be.

They handed me their little plastic treasure and explained to me that he was to sit on my laptop computer.  “He’s to keep you company, and to keep you safe,” Son #3 had explained.  “So you won’t be lonely…or scared,” Son #4 added.

I had my first body guard, Pegleg, with me for nearly two years.  He would occasionally be called into service during the day, but, miraculously, he was always in his place standing guard when I sat down to work each night.  If only they had kept such good track of their shoes, or their pet newts!

Funny Humor Love http://ginavalley.com/ Is That A Cannon In Your Pocket? – Read & Laugh All About It!

But, one night when I sat down to work Pegleg was nowhere to be seen.  In his place stood a proud swordsman from an Arabia Lego set.  Although he didn’t have a pistol, he had a long sword and a swooshing cape.

Swooshing Cape kept me company, dutifully standing guard, for about an hour before curiosity forced me to my younger boys’ room.

Was Pegleg in the midst of a battle paused to continue the following morning? Was Pegleg the recipient of a career ending injury and forced to retire from his bodyguard duties? Had they simply lost Pegleg during the day’s events?

I had to know what had happened to Pegleg!

But, it was 2AM so I would have to figure it out on my own, tempting though it was to rouse one or the other of them from their sleep.

Turning on their bright lights would have woken them up, so that was NOT an option.  I was so thankful for the dimmer switch in their room as I picked my way across the cluttered floor.  I could never have made it in the dark.  Who needs weapons of mass destruction when you have Legos and Hot Wheels on duty?!?!

Their Lego table was covered with structures and figures, but all seemed to be from their modern city building sets.  Their significant pirate population was all on the shelves where they belong, apparently having been quite inactive that day.

I found Pegleg, looking none the worse for wear, sitting on the poop deck of their largest ship.  He was not broken nor missing nor otherwise engaged, yet for some reason Swooshing Cape had taken his place.

Funny Humor Love http://ginavalley.com/ Is That A Cannon In Your Pocket? – Read & Laugh All About It!

I started back to my office, fighting the urge to wake them up to ask what the deal was (Would that really have been so terrible? At least it would have given them more to talk about during therapy as adults!).

I was nearly safely out of their room when I realized this was going to bug me all night.  So, to put my mind at ease, I went back to their shelves and grabbed Pegleg.  Ok, I get a teensy bit set in my OCD ways. So, sue me.

I put Pegleg on my laptop right next to Swooshing Cape.  Both silently watched over me while I worked.  I think I heard them whisper a couple times, but I wasn’t really sure.

True to my OCD nature, I rose a bit early the next morning so I could return Pegleg to the poop deck from whence he came before Sons #3 & #4 woke up.  I didn’t want my boys to know I’d messed with their body guard arrangements for me.  And, I really didn’t want anyone to know that I couldn’t focus on my work without the aid of a teensy plastic pirate.

During breakfast, I casually asked about the appearance of Swooshing Cape.  Son#4 answered, without skipping a beat, or swallowing his waffle for that matter, that “Other guys want a turn.”  Well, that made sense.

Funny Humor Love http://ginavalley.com/ Is That A Cannon In Your Pocket? – Read & Laugh All About It!

It was rather unfair for Pegleg to get all of the fun.  Son#3 added, “We thought you’d like to meet some new guys, too.” How many times had I reminded my kids that meeting new people is fun?  Good grief!  They’d been listening!

So, Swooshing Cape stayed with me for about ten days.  He was replaced on a Sunday afternoon by a tiny brontosaurus, who, I was told, “is not a Lego, but still a cool guy.”

Ever since then, each Sunday afternoon my two youngest boys have provided me with a new body guard.  I’ve never had to ask.  I’ve never reminded them.  Sometimes they introduce us.  Sometimes the new “guy” just mysteriously appears at his post. But my body guard is always there.

And, every time I look at my tiny guardian for the week my heart squishes a little, because alongside that tiny toy is a giant reminder of how much my little boys love me.

How do your kids take care of you?  I look forward to hearing all about it, so please drop me a comment.

He Used MY Toothbrush!!!

He Used MY Toothbrush!!!

by Gina Valley

He used my toothbrush!

How disgusting is that?

And, it didn’t even seem to bother him. He actually seemed to think it was funny.

It was not funny.

There is nothing funny about someone else using your toothbrush.

Especially, when it’s my toothbrush.

I know what some people think. We’ve made babies together, clearly this is not the first “mixing of our essences.” That’s true. Not even the first time today.

And, I have to admit my tongue has touched his teeth before. Yet, somehow, the idea of using my toothbrush as a go between from my mouth to his is totally unacceptable.

He chuckled as he told me that, after he’d finished brushing his teeth, he realized he’d grabbed and used the wrong toothbrush. Mine, inadvertently, instead of his.

I say there are no accidents.

Besides, my toothbrush is pink and his is dark blue. How do you mix those up? I wonder what Dr. Phil would say about that?

I didn’t want to hurt his feelings by totally freaking out, much as my OCD was screaming at me to do just that.  I couldn’t very well start scrubbing my toothbrush with bleach without insulting him. So, I decided I’d “accidentally” knock my toothbrush into the toilet, thereby making its replacement both mandatory and blameless.

While I smoothed moisturizer onto my skin with my left hand, I used my pinky and ring finger of my right hand to slowly inch the contaminated oral cleaning rod toward the toilet.

Just touching it gave me the heebie jeebies. How could I touch something dripping with someone else’s saliva?

My tooth brush was an agent of filth.

My toothbrush was a speed rail for germs.

My toothbrush was bone dry.

How was it possible for my toothbrush to be quite without humidity when he had used it just minutes before?

My eyes darted around the bathroom, searching for an answer, and fell on his dark blue toothbrush, lying on the counter, next to his toothbrush holder (he never stands it up in its holder. Drives me crazy).

Had he used his own toothbrush, but thought it was mine? Could someone really mix up pink-in-a-holder with blue-on-the-counter? Was it time to start looking for “The Home”?

At the risk of barfing a little, I decided to check his toothbrush for signs of recent usage. His, too, was bone dry.

Was this a miracle? Had toothbrush angels descended from heaven and dispelled the disgusting act?!?!

I stared at our bathroom counter, realizing that even the toothbrush angels couldn’t reverse this travesty of personal hygiene. I might have thrown up a little in my mouth, just thinking about what had happened.

Yes, he had used my toothbrush, but not my pink one from my toothbrush holder.  He’d used the dark green one I keep on the counter next to the sink.

The one I use to clean the gunk out from underneath my fingernails!!!

Maybe there is something funny about someone else using your toothbrush, after all.

Laugh Out Loud!

Top 10 Signs This Picnic Is NOT Gonna End Well

Top 10 Signs This Picnic Is NOT Gonna End Well

by Gina Valley

There’s a whole lot of picnicking going on this weekend.

I don’t know about you, but sometimes our forays into the great outdoors are less than totally successful.

It’s usually about halfway through one of these great meetings of the lunchmeats meetups that I realize we’re heading for trouble.

Humor Funny Humorous Family Life Love Laugh Laughter Parenting Mom Moms Dad Dads Parenting Child Kid Kids Children Son Sons Daughter Daughters Brother Brothers Sister Sisters Grandparent Grandma Grandpa Grandparents Grandfather Grandmother Parenting Gina Valley Top 10 Signs This Picnic Isn’t Gonna End WellOr, at least to the Urgent Care Center.

Here’s some clues to tip you off that there’s trouble ahead with an alfresco soirée (you would not believe how long it took me to get the spelling correct on “soirée”).

Top 10 Signs This Picnic Isn’t Gonna End Well

#10.  You parked so far away that you passed 3 county markers and the state line walking from your car to the picnic area.

#9.  You hear someone yell, “Hey look, Cousin Bubba brought his homemade fireworks!”

#8.  The potato salad has been in the sun so long it’s developed a pulse.

#7.  Cousin Beatrice has used the word “pus” four times, and she hasn’t even started to talk about when they had to lance that giant boil on her leg. Yet.

#6.  When you try to use the weather app on your phone to see how hot it is, Siri says. “Help me! I’m melting! I’m melting!!!”

#5.  Uncle Renfro is trying to play volleyball with a watermelon.  Again.

#4.  Just as you’re frantically feeling your pockets in search of your keys, your 5 year old son asks you, “Did you shut the trunk with your keys in there so they wouldn’t get lost?”

#3.  The ants have already carried off 1 cake, half the sandwiches, and Great Grandma Yaya, and it’s not even noon yet.

#2.  The Emergency Room called and asked what time the “friendly game of softball” will be starting this year, so they’ll know what time they should have the cast room open.

#1.  There’re more seagulls lined up in the trees around the food table than in the climax seen in The Birds, and you forgot your umbrella.

Don’t worry.  There’s probably a drive-thru burger place right next to the ER.

Laugh Out Loud!

Do you like picnics? Are you a sandwich-er or a grill-er? Did you know how to spell “soirée”?  How bad were the bugs at your last picnic?  Shoot me a comment. I’m looking forward to hearing all about it.

Happy, Happy Birthday, America!

Happy, Happy Birthday, America!

by Gina Valley

July 4th is a big day here in the United States.  It’s our birthday!

We love to celebrate, and having something we can all celebrate makes it extra special.

So, Happy, Happy Birthday, America!!!

238 years look great on you!

Here’s a few thoughts for your birthday – some serious, some silly:

Did you hear about the cartoonist in the Continental Army?  He was a Yankee doodler!

Those who won our independence believed liberty to be the secret of happiness and courage to be the secret of liberty – Louis D. Brandeis

Freedom is nothing but a chance to be better – Albert Camus

The difference between a duck and George Washington is:  One has a bill on his face; the other has his face on a bill!

Liberty is the breath of life to nations – George Bernard Shaw

We must be free not because we claim freedom, but because we practice it – William Faulkner

The 4th of July is coming up and you know what that means! Time to use Sparklers as wands and shoot spells at people again! And, to write your name in the air!

Why were the first Pennsylvania settlers like ants?   Because they lived in colonies.

American Soldiers don’t fight because they hate what’s in front of them.  They fight because they LOVE what’s behind them!
