Everyday I’m Thankfulin’

I’m not hosting the big dinner today, so I’m not sure what to stress and freak out over.  If I let my mind run with it, I’m sure I can come up with plenty, but instead I am going to remind myself of more of the great stuff in my life.

I am most thankful that I can take time to focus on being thankful.  I am not dealing with the disasters and pain that many are today.  I have a gift in my freedom to contemplate and smile about little things I take for granted.

I’m thankful for texting because it lets my teens tell me things they would likely never tell me otherwise.  I get tons of “I love you” thanks to the texting that I don’t think I would hear without it.  I got a “This class makes me yearn for death,” and a “I forgot my shoes,” too, which weren’t quite as poignant but were a lot of fun.

I’m thankful for electricity.  I know I’ve mentioned it before, but…ELECTRICITY!!!  How great is this stuff?!?!  Such a huge part of my life is made possible through electricity.  Most of my communication.  Most of my job.  Running the machines that help my asthmatic boys breathe.  Vacuuming.  Can you imagine how gross the carpet would be without vacuuming?!?! Appliances.  Refrigeration.  My convection oven.  Honey, you don’t get perfect golden sweet corn bread like mine cooking over a campfire.

I’m thankful for my hair lady.  She’s amazing.  I feel like a new person after she works her magic.  Granted no one in my family even notices that anything was done, but I still fill renewed.

I’m thankful for my nail lady.  Same as with my hair lady.  Yes, she’s just performing maintenance that I am too clumsy to perform on myself, but I feel renewed when I leave her.  And, my toes and fingers are all prettied up.

I’m thankful for cars.  I hate our cars.  But, I love our cars.  I have to be everywhere and I just can’t see me and my heels hopping onto old Rusty to gallop into town for provisions.

I’m thankful for the NHL lockout. I love me some hockey, but, with lots of new projects going, I have been too busy to spend the time to watch it.  Nice to know that I haven’t missed anything.

I’m thankful for air conditioning. Air conditioning is more proof God is real.  If you don’t think the “died to pay for your sins” thing is enough, follow him ‘cause he had someone invent air conditioning.

I’m thankful no one I love is President.  It’s an awful job.  It’s scary.  It’s thankless.  You have no personal space and no privacy for the rest of your life.  I’m thankful someone does it.  I’m more thankful it’s no one I’m tight with.

I’m thankful for you, reading this.  It means more than you can know that you are trusting part of your limited time to me.  That you think my words are worth that irreplaceable investment is huge to me.   Thank you!
